Baseball: Lions snap 8-game skid with win over CL-leading Carp

Lefty Chihiro Sumida's four-hitter helped the Pacific League's last-place Seibu Lions beat the Central League-leading Hiroshima Carp 5-0 in interleague on Wednesday to snap an eight-game losing streak.

At the Lions' Belluna Dome outside Tokyo, Seibu scored all five runs in the fifth inning against tough Hiroshima right-hander Masato Morishita (5-3), and Sumida made the lead stand up.

Sumida (4-5) allowed two walks and struck out four in his 99-pitch complete game.

In other interleague action on Wednesday, Nippon Ham Fighters right-hander Hiromi Ito (5-1) needed just 98 pitches in his three-hit shutout, a 7-0 win over the Chunichi Dragons.

The defending PL champion Orix Buffaloes won the second game of their Japan Series rematch series against the defending CL champion Hanshin Tigers 4-0 to extend their win streak to seven games.
