Pedestrian walking in Middlesex County road struck and killed by vehicle

A 42-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle early Wednesday as he walked on a road in Middlesex County, authorities said.

The driver was headed east on Buckelew Avenue near Grace Hill Road about 12:05 a.m. in Monroe Township when he struck a pedestrian he said was walking in the road, according to police.

The driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian, police said in a statement. The driver and his front-seat passenger were unhurt.

Township EMS workers and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital tended to the victim, but he was later pronounced dead.

The name of the victim, who lived nearby, was not released pending notification of relatives.

No charges were filed, and Monroe Township police are investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the township’s Traffic Safety Division at 732-521-0222 ext. 126.
