Man Utd fan favourite becomes first player to show public support for Erik ten Hag after Ineos made key decision

One Manchester United star has become the first player to react to the news that Ineos will keep Erik ten Hag as the manager of the Premier League club.

Erik ten Hag’s second season at Manchester United ended on a high note after his side lifted the FA Cup trophy at Wembley in May.

Despite United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final, Ten Hag’s long-term future at Old Trafford remained in doubt after a lacklustre season.

The Red Devils ended the 2023-24 Premier League season in eighth place in the league table, with Ten Hag’s men falling well short of the top four.

United will miss out on Champions League football next season, but the FA Cup triumph ensured that the Red Devils will play in the Europa League.

Man Utd star shows support for Ten Hag

Manchester United were believed to have held a season review immediately after the FA Cup final, with Erik ten Hag awaiting to learn his fate at the Premier League club.

The Dutchman is under contract with the Red Devils until 2025 and his time at Old Trafford was shrouded in mystery after the arrival of Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

But transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos team made the decision to retain the services of United boss Ten Hag for next season.

Fabrizio Romano on X, formerly known as Twitter, confirmed that United have also opened talks with the ex-Ajax manager over a new contract.

Alejandro Garnacho, who impressed under Erik ten Hag last season, made his feelings clear on the United boss remaining at Old Trafford.

The United Stand presenter Beth Tucker tweeted out in support of Erik ten Hag, with eagle-eyed fans spotting that Alejandro Garnacho’s account had liked her tweet.

Beth Tucker wrote in the post: “MY MANAGER [sic]!

“Can’t explain how happy I am. Thank you INEOS.”

Ten Hag prepares for Man Utd pre-season

Ten Hag has turned his attention to United’s pre-season tour and admitted some players might miss it due to their commitments at the Copa America and Euro 2024.

“We have a strong first-team squad there with players that can present themselves to the fans,” he told Manchester United’s official website.

“But especially to us. They have the levels to play in our team for next season.

“There will be a mix, with experienced players together with some young players.

“[The squad will be] as strong as possible but, of course, the players who go far in the Copa America and the Euros will not be involved.”
