Liverpool cash in as £49m jackpot imminent, could cover new Virgil van Dijk deal

Liverpool are set to land a significant windfall that could theoretically cover Virgil Van Dijk’s wage demands.

The 32-year-old will soon be into the final year of the contract he signed in August 2021, which is worth a reported £11.4m per year.

Liverpool‘s turnover is one of the highest worldwide, thanks in large part to their exploits off the pitch, in the commercial department and beyond.

The revamping of their stadium, which has undergone several developments in recent years, has also proved enormously lucrative.

Even while it is not hosting football matches in the summer, it is still proving fruitful.

And one global superstar’s arrival at the 62,000-seater stadium this week is set to particularly money-spinning for the Merseysiders.

Taylor Swift concerts could land £10m windfall for Liverpool

Taylor Swift will play the first of three sold-out shows at Anfield on Thursday.

Research conducted by industry experts Hello Ticket has found that Swift’s decision to visit the city could be worth a staggering £49m to the local economy.

Liverpool, the football club, will be the single biggest beneficiaries, with the Liverpool ECHO reporting that they could land up to £10m in total for hosting the gigs.

Anfield is permitted to host up to six non-football events per season, and Liverpool will see their coffers further boosted later this summer when Pink performs at the stadium.

All told, the money they receive would likely be more than enough to cover Van Dijk’s contract.

However, it is now being reported that the club will delay negotiations with the Dutchman until almost the turn of the new year.
