The sell-on clause Braga have negotiated with Wolves on Rodrigo Gomes as star completes £12.7m move

Many Wolves fans are pleased today with Rodrigo Gomes becoming the club’s first signing of the summer.

There has been a lot of tension and frustration about the club in recent weeks because of the season ticket price increases.

There remains a lot of anger about that, and supporters will continue to express themselves about the issue on social media.

But there is at least one reason to park those feelings to one side just for the moment, with a seriously talented young player joining the football club.

Rodrigo Gomes has signed with Wolves paying Braga around £12.7 million for the transfer, following a very good season on loan at Estoril.

Gomes is hopefully going to provide some real quality in the wide areas.

The 20-year-old can play either as a winger or wing-back, which was his main position last season at Estoril.

Despite playing further back than what he is used to, he still scored nine goals and made eight assists in 36 appearances.

Gomes is a player with huge potential, and it should therefore come as no surprise to Wolves fans that a sell-on clause has been agreed for Gomes’ next move.

Braga want a slice of the cake for when he moves on, and they will take 10% of the next sale according to Record. It is not suggested that it would be 10% of any profit made on Gomes, just 10% of the whole fee he goes for.

A great deal for Wolves

So Gomes is signing for £12.7 million and Braga will hold a 10% sell-on clause for the next move he makes – and that is a good deal for Wolves.

Braga were likely always going to ask for a clause to be inserted otherwise they may have asked for more money, or not have been willing to do business at all.

If Gomes develops as club officials hope he does, then this clause will not be too much of an issue.

Ideally, he will stick around for a few years to increase his market value significantly, and eventually sell for a fee so high that Wolves will hardly feel the effects of the clause.
