'On his way...': Fabrizio Romano drops transfer update as Wolves prepare to welcome first summer signing

Wolves are now set to sign Rodrigo Gomes after reaching an agreement with SC Braga – and Fabrizio Romano has now shared some more information about the transfer.

Wolves are swooping for the talented 20-year-old, who enjoyed a fantastic 2023/24 campaign on loan at Estoril.

The youngster played mainly as a right wing-back and excellent, scoring nine goals and making eight assists. He was one of the most exciting players in the Portuguese top-flight and as a result of his form, he has had quite a bit of interest of late.

But it appears Wolves have taken a big stride forward in the race to land Rodrigo Gomes. An agreement has been reached, and the player is due for his medical this week.

This morning, Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update on the player to suggest Wolves have been fairly efficient and ruthless with this particular deal…

Atletico Madrid were one of the clubs reported to be taking an interest in Gomes following his exploits in 2023/24.

Apparently at one point, they had stolen a march on Wanderers.

But now Gomes is on his way to Molineux – and Fabrizio Romano has suggested the player moving to Atletico was never actually particularly close.

He wrote on X: “Rodrigo Gomes, on his way to England this week as Wolves have completed deal to sign Portuguese talent from Braga.

“Atlético Madrid never sent any proposal as they have different priorities, Wolves were fast to get it done for €15m. Gomes will sign until June 2029.”

Good to see Wolves acting quickly and decisively

After some earlier reports suggesting Wolves were going to miss out, it now looks like Rodrigo Gomes will be heading to Molineux to become a new Wanderers player.

It is an exciting deal, and positive from the club to be getting this one tied up nice and early.

Fans want to see a productive window, and an early addition is likely to appease many.

By many accounts, Gomes is a young player with bags of potential and is versatile to play in a few different positions. It is a really positive signing, and the hope will be that the club are getting someone in who is in the same kind of boat as Joao Gomes and Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Both of those players were signed for similar fees to what Gomes will move for. And they are now two of the biggest assets at the whole club.
