Report: Real Madrid now make contact to sign £42m Tottenham star who Pedro Porro called best in the world

Real Madrid now want to sign a Tottenham player who Pedro Porro said is the best on the planet in his position.

The Spanish giants have often been a thorn in Tottenham’s side, previously pinching the likes of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale from N17.

Now, Real Madrid want to take another top player from Tottenham

Real Madrid want Cristian Romero

A story from ESPN Argentina now claims that Real Madrid want to sign Cristian Romero.

Fresh from winning a record 15th UEFA Champions League title, Los Blancos bolstered their attacking department with the addition of Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer – with Brazilian wonderkid Endrick also heading to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Now, Carlo Ancelotti’s side want to strengthen their backline as well, with Romero a target.

ESPN Argentina even believe Real Madrid have already made contact to ask what it would take to land the Argentina international this summer – who Tottenham signed in a £42m deal from Atalanta back in August 2021.

It is not made clear how much Tottenham would demand – although we presume it will be a significant sum, if not a flat out no, given Romero’s importance to Ange Postecoglou.

The South American – who Tottenham No.23 Pedro Porro recently called the best central defender on the planet – started 33 Premier League games last season, and at the age of 26, still has the best part of a decade remaining at the highest level.

Furthermore, the man from Cordoba’s contract runs until the summer of 2027 – so Spurs find themselves in a strong negotiating position.

Losing the Argentine would be a nightmare for Tottenham

Postecoglou already has a job on his hands looking for a new left-back after Oliver Skipp finished the 2023/24 campaign playing there, with that department now even weaker after Ryan Sessegnon was released.

Therefore, it would be a nightmare if the Australian lost his best defender as well.

Romero was even named as one of two players Postecoglou felt truly stood up during Tottenham’s difficult losing run at the end of last season.

Hopefully, Spurs can prevent Real Madrid from pinching the Argentine this summer.
