Report: Aston Villa now make contact to sign 'one of the best in the world' and he would be willing to join

Aston Villa have now made contact to sign a player who has been described as one of the best in his position.

The Villans have already been busy this summer after striking a deal with Luton Town to bring Ross Barkley back to Villa Park – ahead of a return to the UEFA Champions League next season.

Now, contact has been made to bring a Netherlands international to Aston Villa as well…

Aston Villa make contact to sign Denzel Dumfries

A story from Calciomercato now states that Aston Villa have made contact with Inter Milan over a deal to sign Denzel Dumfries.

The Italian news outlet believe a meeting recently took place between Aston Villa and AC Milan regarding a deal for Matty Cash – and the Villans have moved for the Netherlands international as a potential replacement for the Poland international.

Calciomercato believe Dumfries is happy at the San Siro – but would be willing to join Unai Emery in the Midlands after Aston Villa qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

The Dutchman – described as “one of the best in the world” by Bayer Leverkusen No.30 Jeremie Frimpong – is in discussions over a new contract at Inter Milan, although Calciomercato believe talks are stalling, and if an agreement is not reached, the Italian giants will look to sell him.

Dumfries enjoyed a standout 2023/24 campaign as Inter Milan won the Serie A title, scoring four goals while also providing six assists in 36 appearances from right wing-back.

Unai Emery could move Ezri Konsa back into the centre

Ezri Konsa made 23 appearances at right-back last season, shining as the Villans finished fourth in the Premier League, although The Athletic believe the England international prefers to play in the centre of defence.

Therefore, talks to sign Dumfries may be taking place with the intention of moving the Aston Villa No.4 back into the middle – especially as Clement Lenglet has now returned to Barcelona after his loan spell.

The Inter Milan No.2 is a real threat down that right flank, scoring over 30 goals and providing more than 50 assists from wing-back throughout his career, so he could add a whole new dimension to Emery’s setup.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as talks to sign Dumfries could accelerate if AC Milan secure Cash’s signature.
