Report: Tottenham now keen on signing £25m striker who Harry Kane says is a ‘great player’

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on a striker who Harry Kane once lauded as a ‘great player’.

Spurs are yet to replace Harry Kane with an out-and-out striker and that seems to be high on their list of priorities this summer.

Ange Postecoglou fared well without the England captain last season, guiding Tottenham to a fifth-place finish and a return to Europe.

But Spurs are looking at several options as they plot a move for a new striker, with Ivan Toney, Santiago Gimenez and Viktor Gyokeres reportedly all on their radar.

Now Il Messaggero has thrown a fresh name into the mix as the Italian outlet claims Postecoglou’s men are looking at a Serie A forward.

Tottenham keen on Tammy Abraham

The outlet reports that Roma are expected to demand around €30 million (£25.2 million) for Tammy Abraham this summer.

A host of Premier League sides are looking into a move for the former Chelsea star, which includes West Ham, Aston Villa, and possibly Everton.

Tottenham are also said to be keen while the Italian club awaits offers for the 26-year-old.

What Kane has said about Abraham amid Tottenham links

Abraham’s stock has fallen over the past couple of years after an excellent start to life in Rome. The Englishman bagged 27 times in his debut season (2021-22) but has managed just 10 goals since.

After his bright start in Italy, Abraham was even amongst the England set-up following his Chelsea exit and Kane had huge praise for him at the time.

“I think that Tammy is a great player,” the former Spurs star told talkSPORT back in June 2022. “He’s had a fantastic season at club level, he’s still learning and has experience to gain but every time he comes here he works hard and trains hard.

“He wants to impress the manager, he wants to score goals and of course it’s great to have competition in every position and in the Premier League we have some great English strikers who are scoring goals on a regular basis.

“Tammy is doing that for Roma as well so he’s a great player and I’m sure he’ll want to keep improving, keep working hard and that’s what he’ll try and do in this camp and going back to club level as well.”
