Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) faced comparisons to "the village idiot" Wednesday when he sang the praises of former President Donald Trump's oldest son, dubbed in a new profile as "a kingmaker."

"Don is one of the best people I’ve met in politics," Vance wrote on X, sharing an Axios profile in which he is quoted. "He genuinely believes in America First and works his a-- off to make it a reality."

The Axios report focused primarily on Trump Jr.'s role pumping up his dad on social media despite a distaste for the work of governing and reported complaints over being signed up for fundraisers.

"He enjoys trash-talking on social media and campaigning, but isn't as attracted to the day job of governing that would come with running for and winning public office," Axios reports. "He elevates his friends (including Vance.)"

This is followed with more praise from Vance, who appeared at Trump's criminal hush money trial sporting the former president's iconic blue blazer/red tie combo. He is also rumored to be on the shortlist to be the presumptive Republican nominee's running mate.

"With the exception of his dad," Vance told Axios, "I'm not sure I've seen anyone who has a stronger natural connection to our base."

Vance was quick to share the article on X, where it and he were both met with abject and immediate ridicule.

"Well, every king needs a court jester and every village needs an idiot so here you are," replied podcaster Fred Wellman.

"He's a nepo baby and cares about wealth," Jared Christian, a Democrat running for Congress in Ohio, replied.

"Nothing makes you seem like you are fit for leadership quite like sucking up to the boss's son in hopes of getting the VP slot on a losing ticket," added X user Jared Ryan Sears.

"Hint," wote X user Joey Bonanno. "Don jr has no sway with his dad's VP pick, but helluva try."
