Report: 'Brilliant' £15m Eddie Howe signing now put up for sale by Newcastle United

A ‘brilliant’ £15m Eddie Howe signing has been put up for sale by Newcastle United this summer transfer window, according to a recent report.

The Magpies are one of the Premier League clubs under pressure to sell before the end of June – when the financial year ends.

So, there are expected to be a number of departures at St James’ in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

That said, one ‘brilliant’ Howe signing has just been put up for sale.

Newcastle United put Matt Targett up for sale

According to Newcastle World, Matt Targett has been put up for sale by Newcastle United ahead of the fast-approaching summer transfer window.

Since turning his loan move into a permanent £15m deal, the 28-year-old has largely been out of the picture due to injury and the form of Dan Burn.

Targett made just seven appearances last term, with only three of those coming from the first whistle, so evidently he is no longer in Howe’s plans.

Less than two years on from his permanent switch, Newcastle are now looking for buyers, though, they may struggle.

Newcastle United may struggle to sell Matt Targett

Newcastle may struggle to sell Targett this window due to his lofty wages, which are thought to be worth £100k-a-week.

The former Villa man has two years left on his deal and if he is to leave, he’ll likely need to take a significant pay cut.

Though, Targett may well be willing to do that in a bid to play regular football again.
