When former Fulton County special prosecutor Nathan Wade was asked by CNN's Kaitlan Collins to come clean about when he struck up a romance with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, his medical consultant intervened — and halted the interview.

Initially, Wade started to offer tidbits.

"What is your current relationship with the district attorney," Collins asked.

"Just as outlined earlier, we are great friends. We speak regularly the conversation has changed though whereas before our conversations were about this case... but our conversations have shifted to 'How are you?' 'How are you?' 'Handling the threats that are coming your way?' 'Are you being safe' and 'Democracy — the case will live on.'"

At that moment Collins asked about the specifics to set the record straight, as Wade and Willis have both suggested their relationship began after former President Donald Trump and 18 other defendants were formally indicted.

The racketeering case accuses Trump and the others of conspiring to meddle with the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state.

Once their romance was exposed, the district attorney denied their relationship tainted the case and called allegations by Trump's co-defendant Mike Roman “meritless” and “salacious."

The judge in the case offered Willis to continue prosecuting the matter, but only if Wade bowed out. He resigned soon afterward.

When asked about the precise date they kindled a relationship beyond friends, Wade danced around the question.

"Just to clarify, when did the romantic relationship between the two of you start," Collins asked him.

"Yeah, so we get into, there has been this effort to say that okay, these, these exact dates are our at issue, and these exact dates are — I'm getting ... I'm getting signals here —"

It was then that Wade took off his microphone and stepped over to a bookcase to talk with a man believed to be a media consultant. The cameras kept rolling to capture the odd huddle between the two.

Wade then returned to his chair, and Collins repeated her question.

"Okay, just to revisit the question, it was to clarify when the romantic relationship started and when it ended," she said.

"So I believe that the public has through the testimony and other interviews — the public has a clear snapshot that this is clearly just a distraction it is not a relevant issue in this case and I think that we should be focusing on more of the facts and the indictment in the case."

A state appeals court has put Willis' election subversion RICO case on ice until a panel of judges weighs Trump's appeal seeking to disqualify Willis for the revelations related to the romance with Wade.

Willis's office has asked a Georgia appellate court to dismiss Trump’s appeal.
