TV star wails in pain as hip 'pops out of socket' miles out at sea

Deadliest Catch season 20 sees returning faces including the Northwestern’s Sig Hansen, and ‘Wild’ Bill Wichrowski. However, there are also newcomers to the show, as well as returning crew members. Fishing for crab on the Bering Sea comes with all kinds of challenges. And, when health issues strike at sea, there’s often not a lot that can be done for the cast members. The “intense” premiere sees one of the crew having to have her hip “popped back” into place.

Fans are saying Deadliest Catch‘s first episode got season 20 off to a “crazy start” as a fire breaks out on one fishing boat. On the F/V Seabrooke, the co-captain’s daughter’s hip “pops” out of its socket and many viewers can’t believe she continued to remain on board, and some even describe her father as “cold” in the situation.

Deadliest Catch star’s hip ‘pops out’

Over the past 20 seasons, Deadliest Catch has been filled with gruesome scenes and tragedy.

It seems this year’s show is no different as Megan Wallace’s hip pops out of place in episode 1.

During season 20, Sophia ‘Bob’ Nielsen is a ‘skipper in training’ under Captain Greg Wallace.

Greg’s daughter, Megan, is a crew member working aboard the Seabrooke and Bob explains how the two went to the same school.

As Greg and Bob are busy strategizing their crab fishing plans, they suddenly hear Megan wailing on the boat.

Her dad asks: “Did she slip or something?”

Megan can be heard crying as she’s carried by her crewmates to a different area of the ship.

Bob goes to see if Megan’s “OK” but she says: “No, I just stepped and my hip popped out.”

Sophia replies: “You’re not supposed to be working are you?”

Admitting how much pain she’s in, Megan says: “No, really I’m not.”

Deckhand admits she needed surgery

While laying on the floor of the boat, Megan tells Sophia she can “pop her hip back in” but “just needs help.”

She groans and swears before explaining she previously went to the hospital because she dislocated her hip. The doctor told her she needed to see a hip specialist and get surgery.

But, she said: “I put a bandaid on it and came out here.”

Captain Wallace remains at the helm of the boat and says: “I love my daughter, but I don’t know what to do about her.”

Fans weighed in on the Captain’s response, with one calling him “cold” on X (Twitter).

Another said: “I’m side-eyeing the co-captain of the Seabrooke. He let his own daughter go fishing with him when she knew that she needed hip surgery? Did he know she needed it? Is the crab really worth your daughter further injuring her hip?”

Sophia is asked to pop Megan’s hip back into place, but she worries she “doesnt know what she’s doing” in episode 1.

The deckhand lays on the ground with her hands over her eyes crying as Sophia apologizes and says: “I don’t mean to hurt you.”

After successfully popping “trooper” Megan’s hip back in its socket, Bob grabs her some ibuprofen.

Fans could barely believe the season 20 scenes, and one tweeted: “Watching a woman get her hip put back into place is peak entertainment #deadliestcatch.”

Another said: “On the Seabrooke Megan is hurting because she dislocated her hip once before, and now she’s popped it out again. They needed to Medevac her or take her to Dutch Harbor instead of having her sit there riling in pain.”

More tweeted: “Wait. She knew she needed surgery on her hip. But she decides to go fishing anyway, and now her hip has popped out. Not smart. Did her doctor even clear her to go fishing?”

And: “Jesus, Captain of the Seabrook is one cold fish. He doesn’t seem to care about his daughter being seriously injured. Smh.”

Fans even created a Reddit thread on the scene with one commenting: “As an ER nurse who has participated in a LOT of hip reductions, I was thoroughly shocked how easy she put that hip back in.”
