Report: Everton are now showing strong interest in £17m striker who they nearly signed in 2023

Everton, despite their well-documented financial limitations, could still potentially wade into the transfer market this summer.

Admittedly, it will have to be done with immense caution, but Sean Dyche has operated on a shoestring budget before, whilst Kevin Thelwell will be well aware of the struggles of the job by now.

Due to these issues though, it kind of feels like the Toffees might have to operate on a ‘one in, one out’ system, which encourages bigger names to leave for sizeable fees only to then replace them with distressed or undervalued assets from elsewhere.

One such swap has already been mooted at the start of the summer, given the future of Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains murky, and Everton are in turn sniffing around Tammy Abraham again.

Everton want to sign Tammy Abraham this summer

Having shown interest in the former Chelsea man just last year, in which he came very close to moving to Goodison Park according to some reports, it should therefore come as no surprise to see him once again linked.

The latest comes courtesy of Corriere Dello Sport though, with the print edition (12/06) of the Italian outlet detailing how Dyche and Thelwell are planning to try and snag the 26-year-old.

The report states that they hold a strong interest in the striker, but they will have to battle with the likes of Aston Villa, West Ham United and Leicester City to win his signature.

AS Roma are expected to command a fee anywhere between £17m and £21m.

Is Tammy Abraham better than Dominic Calvert-Lewin?

As a couple of tall, fast and sometimes profligate English strikers, comparisons have been made between Abraham and Calvert-Lewin ever since the two burst onto the Premier League scene for Everton and Chelsea respectively.

However, whilst the latter has stuck around in England, continuing to try and prove his worth for the club that offered him his big break, the former actually plays for AS Roma, and has done so for three years now.

Having joined the Italian club for a mouth-watering £34m fee, there was once a time when the former Sheffield United man might have commanded such a price tag.

After all, back during the 2019/20 campaign, he would notch 13 league goals, and followed that up with a further 16 the following term.

Meanwhile, during that time, Abraham had seemingly developed into the starting striker that the West London outfit had been searching for.

He scored 15 and then six in the same two seasons and would go on to score 27 in his debut year in Italy across all competitions before struggling for form and fitness.

Perhaps a return to England could help revitalise his career, especially given Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation remains precarious.
