Report: Everton are still in talks to sign £30m player this summer who Frank Lampard loves

Everton are expected to endure a relatively quiet summer when it comes to incoming transfers, purely due to their financial limitations.

Even if a potential takeover was to be sped through and a hugely lucrative benefactor joined the club, PSR continues to leave them hamstrung in the market despite the desperate need to improve their squad.

However, despite the dire situation the Toffees once again find themselves in, it seems not all hope is completely lost on the transfer front.

After all, there is one link that simply refuses to fizzle out despite how ludicrous it may sound.

Everton still want Armando Broja

It was noted late last week that Everton wanted to sign Armando Broja, but few truly thought that there was a chance that the Toffees could pull off such a coup.

After all, Chelsea are unlikely to allow the Albanian international to leave for cheap, given the interest that he has garnered across the last few years.

However, this latest report from The Athletic has reaffirmed Everton’s stance on the matter, and whilst a deal is some distance away, talks are ongoing.

It reads: ‘Chelsea and Everton are in dialogue over Armando Broja, but a deal would only be possible if Everton can raise funds first. A deal may require Dominic Calvert-Lewin to leave and there are a host of clubs in the conversation for Broja.

‘Chelsea are also in no rush to agree terms with anyone before Broja plays for Albania at the European Championship.’

This coincidentally comes two years after Frank Lampard, who briefly coached the 22-year-old at Stamford Bridge before joining Everton, waxed lyrical about the forward: ‘He’s fast, strong, has a real eye for goal and he’s a very, very good young player so I’m very aware of his strengths in a Southampton team playing very well.’

Everton could lose Dominic Calvert-Lewin

If Everton are so insistent on securing another striker, just two years after they added two more to their squad, it might mark a damning indication regarding the future of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The 27-year-old, who entered talks over a new contract just last month, has been the subject of transfer speculation of his own, however the silence remained golden for many.

After all, it was widely accepted that the Toffees were working in the background to try and tie down all of their most valuable assets, despite many reports suggesting that they have to sell to avoid another PSR disaster.

But, if Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell really are preparing to offload the £30m fee Broja would command, then surely it would only be as a direct replacement for the equally tall, powerful and fast striker Calvert-Lewin.

Hopefully, this proves not to be the case, as the number nine is the least of their worries when combing through a threadbare Everton squad.
