Club president says rapid £28m striker reportedly wanted by Tottenham is 'allowed to leave' this summer

Tottenham Hotspur could well be busy in the summer transfer window as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his ranks.

Spurs finished fifth in the Premier League table last season to secure a spot in the Europa League.

However, Tottenham were in the running for a top-four finish until about mid-April, only to then fall out of contention.

Postecoglou has laid some solid foundations at Spurs, and with some signings this summer, the club can really kick on.

Now, a “fantastic” striker who has been linked with a move to Tottenham will be allowed to change clubs this summer.

The player in question is Lille forward Jonathan David, who has made a name for himself as one of the best attacking talents in European football.

Ben Jacobs reported in March that “Tottenham have looked at a variety of players from Joshua Zirkzee to someone like Jonathan David.”

Now, Lille president Olivier Letang has confirmed that the club is willing to sell David and Lenny Yoro in the coming months.

“We have two players who will be allowed to leave: Jonathan and Leny,” Letang said at a press conference unveiling new head coach Bruno Genesio, as per GFFN.

Tottenham target Jonathan David could be available for bargain price

David is a prolific striker, with 84 goals and 15 assists to his name from 183 Lille outings, plus 26 goals from 46 caps for Canada.

The 24-year-old is one of the quickest players in Ligue 1. According to The Speeds Database, he’s faster than the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison.

And in terms of David’s valuation, Milan News suggested earlier this year that his price tag could have dropped to just under £28million.

His contract runs until 2025, meaning Lille must sell this year or risk losing him for little to nothing next year.

All in all, Tottenham could get themselves a young, talented and prolific striker for a bargain price tag.
