Brazilian national media give their verdict on Alisson’s final performance before Copa America

Liverpool players have plenty of involvement in this year’s summer international tournaments.

While most of the focus will be on Euro 2024, there is also the small matter of a Copa America to content with.

Liverpool have four players in action over in the USA, and all of them with have hopes of winning the whole thing.

Alexis Mac Allister was not in the squad when Argentina earned their holders’ status in 2021 and will be desperate for them to replicate it this time. Meanwhile Darwin Nunez is in terrific form for Uruguay and Colombia are unbeaten for a long time with Luis Diaz starring.

And then there’s Alisson Becker. Alisson has not always done himself justice for Brazil but with Ederson missing through injury, he’s now undisputedly the Selecao’s starting goalkeeper.

Brazilian media give Alisson verdict

Although Brazil have plenty of quality, Argentina are rightfully favourites to win the Copa America this year.

Lionel Scaloni’s team are world and Americas champions and still have the cheat code that is Lionel Messi in their squad.

Brazil meanwhile are at the start of a new era. 2023 was one of their worst ever years results wise and they now have a new manager, Dorival Junior.

Alisson will be one of the key players in helping to usher in that fresh start and according to Globo, the Liverpool goalkeeper was in good form on Wednesday.

Handing him a six point five out of ten, the Brazilian outlet report that Alisson made ‘two great saves’ in the first-half alone.

The 31-year-old is unfortunately then said to have ‘faltered’ to allow Christian Pulisic to equalise, but reportedly ‘redeemed himself’ from thereon in.

GOAL also give Alisson a positive write up, handed Liverpool’s No.1 a seven out of ten.

Again, Pulisic’s goal is mentioned, with Alisson said to have been ‘wrong-footed’ by the former Chelsea man. However, the goalie reportedly made some ‘impressive saves throughout’ to boost his rating.

Alisson all ready for Copa America

Brazil’s game against the USA was their final fixture before the Copa America begins. They’ll face Costa Rica in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

For Alisson, the tournament represents a chance to show everyone why he’s still the best goalkeeper in the world.

From a Liverpool point of view, they could possibly do without the Copa America happening this summer. It only means more disruption to Arne Slot’s first pre-season.

With so many of his Liverpool squad off playing for their nations, Slot will be sweating over potential injury issues.

The flipside of that is that a winners medal in either the Euros or the Copa America will be a big boost for any player heading into the new season.

With Alisson in the team and in decent form, Brazil instantly have a better chance of giving themselves that lift.
