Report: Leeds United interested in signing Premier League player who Gary Neville had big doubts about

Leeds United are currently well stocked in the midfield department but that could change amid intrest from elsewhere.

In Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara, Ilia Gruev and Archie Gray, Leeds have four strong first team options for two spots and so it is arguably the position Daniel Farke boasts the most depth.

However, after Leeds’ failure to win promotion back to the Premier League last month, at least two of those players are already attracting interest from elsewhere.

Having paid around £5 million to sign him just last summer, Ilia Gruev is wanted by Borussia Dortmund and other Bundesliga clubs. It is said Leeds could be open to offers if they can turn a significant profit.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Gray is also the subject of elite interest but given his family’s ties to the club, the hope is he will stay. It also appears that is his stance, too.

Daniel Farke could eye potential Oliver Skipp reunion at Leeds

Leeds will be able to start conducting transfer business from tomorrow with the window officially set to open between Friday 14 June, and Friday 30 August.

It is set to be a busy one at Elland Road with those behind-the-scenes having acknowledged some player sales will be needed this summer.

However, Paraag Marathe has insisted funds will be available for replacements and according to the Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp is someone of interest.

It is said Skipp could come onto Leeds’ radar in the coming weeks if one of their midfielders departs, which as mentioned, is a possibility amid interest in Gruev and Gray.

Skipp made 21 league appearances for Spurs in total last season but is well down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou, with the likes of Yves Bissouma, James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg all ahead of him.

It would certainly be a signing that makes sense given Skipp worked under Farke during a loan spell at Norwich City during the 2020/21 campaign.

As per Football.London, Skipp is open to an exit from Spurs this summer and so it will be interesting to see if he would be willing to drop into the Championship.

Gary Neville has doubts over Skipp at Spurs

As mentioned, Skipp is clearly out of favour at Tottenham but that did not mean he was frozen out completely last season, coming off the bench on several occasions.

One of those matches in which he did so was in a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest back in mid-December, when he was brought on in the first half after a red card for Bissouma.

Despite coming away with three points, Gary Neville expressed his doubts over Skipp’s ability to fit Postecoglou’s style, which could actually be a positive sign for Leeds.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “I think the way in which Ange Postecoglou asks this team to play, Skipp is a good technical player, Hojberg is physical, but they both lack the other side of the game. Skipp can’t get around the pitch and Hojberg technically isn’t good.”
