Kieran Tripper shares what Chelsea's Cole Palmer is actually like on England duty

Kieran Trippier has shared what England teammate Cole Palmer is actually like around the international camp.

Chelsea star Cole Palmer, 22, is currently away as part of England’s 26-man squad at Euro 2024 this summer.

Incidentally, the Three Lions begin the group stages on Sunday against Serbia.

Let’s remember this is Palmer’s first involvement at a major tournament with England’s senior team.

The Blues attacker only has four senior international caps to his name, with two of them coming earlier in June during warm up matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iceland.

However, we’re confident that the inexperienced Chelsea talent could have a big competition ahead of him.

What Cole Palmer is like with England

England’s senior duo Jordan Pickford and Kieran Trippier were asked if any youngsters in the Euros squad has surprised them so far with banter.

The general answer was that they are all quiet and not really, but they did say this about Palmer:

Pickford told Lions’ Den on YouTube: “Cole is chirpy isn’t he?

Trippier added: “Yeah, yeah. With the City boys he is!”

It’s great to hear Palmer is starting to come out of his shell a little. You can be forgiven for forgetting he’s still a relatively new face in Gareth Southgate’s group.

Of course, he knows Chelsea teammate Conor Gallagher. Plus, he played with England stars Kyle Walker, John Stones and Phil Foden at Manchester City.

Let’s hope Palmer settles in comfortably in the England environment because you’d suspect a player with his ability will be a mainstay for a long time to come.

Chelsea talisman is the ace up Gareth Southgate’s sleeve

Palmer was playing for England’s Under-21s and sitting on the Man City bench a year ago. However, when you skip to the present day he enters the Euros as one of the most in-form players.

Palmer was astonishing last season during his first year as a Chelsea player, scoring 25 goals and making 15 assists in 45 matches for his new club.

Even if Southgate doesn’t start him for England, Palmer is a sensational option to bring off the bench to impact a game.
