Stan Collymore predicts whether Chelsea's Conor Gallagher will start England's first match at Euro 2024

Stan Collymore has predicted whether or not he thinks Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher will be starting England’s first match at Euro 2024 next week.

Conor Gallagher, 24, is confirmed to be on the plane as part of England’s 26-man squad for the Euros tournament this summer.

The box-to-box midfielder is deservedly in the travelling party after a strong season at Chelsea, scoring seven goals and making nine assists in 50 games across all competitions.

England have prepared for the tournament with two warm-up matches this week. Gallagher started and played 90 minutes in the 3-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday evening, but was an unused substitute in Friday night’s 1-0 defeat against Iceland.

Stan Collymore prediction

Following on from England’s defeat against Iceland, Stan Collymore has predicted via X that Chelsea’s Gallagher will be back in the starting line-up versus Serbia.

He thinks the Blues star will form a midfield combination alongside Arsenal’s Declan Rice.

Alternatively, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Adam Wharton or Kobbie Mainoo are alternative options in the squad to sit alongside Rice. We’re guessing Jude Bellingham is locked in to start just in front as a No 10.

Conor Gallagher is still Mr Underrated

England fans are learning just like Chelsea supporters what a positive impact Gallagher can make on a football pitch.

He does so much fantastic work off the ball, whether that’s pressing opponents to win possession back or covering the hard yards to help out the defence.

On top of that, he’s great arriving on the edge of the box as an attacking threat.

The Chelsea Chronicle expects Gallagher to play an important role for England this summer, whether that’s as a starter or an impact of substitute remains to be seen.
