The impressive fee Celtic could receive for Hyeongyu Oh emerges amid Genk interest

Celtic striker Hyeongyu Oh could be one of the first casualties of the summer transfer window amid speculation over his future.

The South Korea international played 26 times during the last campaign and scored five goals before Adam Idah’s arrival limited his game time, per Transfermarkt.

Earlier in the week, we told that talks had already been established between Genk and Celtic regarding Oh, with the Belgian outfit said to be keen to land his services.

Now, more information has come to light regarding the permutations of a prospective transfer that looks to be gathering pace.

Celtic set to make a handy profit on Hyeongyu Oh

According to The Daily Record, Genk are said to be pursuing Oh in a deal that could be worth north of £3.5 million, which would represent an increase on the £2.5 million fee Celtic shelled out for him back in January 2023.

The outlet claim the Bhoys want to make a profit on their investment while also factoring add-ons into a deal.

Genk are happy to give the former Suwon Bluewings man a chance to re-establish himself after he fell down the pecking order under Brendan Rodgers last season.

Crucially, Oh is keen to work with their coach, Thorstein Fink, who has helped to forge talent such as Son Heung-min during his time in the dugout.

Should a deal come to fruition, Celtic would have a vacant striker slot ready to be filled by someone else, alongside some extra money to add to their transfer kitty.

Unfortunately, despite showing his talent at Parkhead in spurts, it looks like the best course of action for both parties may be for Oh to head to the Cegeka Arena permanently.
