'Oh dear': CNN legal analyst appalled by Trump's latest fundraising pitch

CNN legal analyst Elliott Williams found himself appalled on Thursday after seeing former President Donald Trump's latest fundraising pitch.

During a roundtable discussion, host Kasie Hunt displayed a message Trump sent out to his supporters this week that began with the subject header, "HAUL OUT THE GUILLOTINE!"

"Oh dear," Williams said in response. "The unfortunate thing about the guillotine reference is that, given January 6th and gallows and nooses that were images there..."

"They were chanting, 'Hang Mike Pence!'" Hunt exclaimed.

"It was literally gallows on January 6th!" Williams concurred. "An image like that sticks in people's minds... this is Donald Trump's hold on the party, we were talking about this in the last segment before the break which is that against rationality and sound political judgement, folks still seem to fall in line."

Trump is returning to the Capitol on Thursday for the first time since he incited a deadly riot there on January 6th, 2021 that sent lawmakers fleeing for their lives.

This led to Trump getting impeached for a record second time and also led to his criminal indictment for conspiring to defraud the United States with his efforts to illegally remain in power after losing the 2020 election.
