Concern over development on land at Weston without planning permission

A resident has raised concern over development taking place without planning permission in a village.

They described “fencing and park homes” being built on land in Weston over the May bank holiday weekend, and felt the person behind it had “bulldozed over planning regulations” and were taking advantage of the bank holiday to ensure enforcement action wasn’t taken.

The land, at the cricket field, is also accessed at a bend on a 60mph road — causing further concerns for residents.

Newark and Sherwood District Council has confirmed that no application was received for the work, but following investigation the landowner intends to apply for part-retrospective permission.

Residents will be able to comment on this application when it is received, before a decision is made.

Matt Lamb, director of planning and growth at Newark and Sherwood District Council said: “The district council was made aware of development taking place on land at Weston over the recent May bank holiday weekend. The council takes breaches of planning control seriously and it is disappointing when development takes place without planning permission being sought.

“Following investigation the landowner has made clear an intent to apply for part-retrospective planning permission, something they are entitled to do. When a valid planning application is received we will consult with neighbouring residents. It is only if planning permission is refused that the council will take any necessary enforcement action.”
