Pupils have an opportunity to see part of their curriculum come to life right on their doorsteps later this year.
Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers will be brought to life on the Palace Theatre stage this October.
The GCSE English Literature curriculum text will take to the stage from October 22 to 26 as part of a national tour of the spectacular Bill Kenwright Ltd West End production.
Highlighting the class divide of the 1980s and provoking discussion about inequality and the idea of nature versus nurture, the multi award-winning musical tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences.
Carys Coulton-Jones, business manager for heritage and culture at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “The experience of seeing a play you’re studying is an invaluable part of the learning experience and can really help to spark new ideas, theories and interpretations. We’re delighted to be enabling local students to engage with this legendary musical this autumn.
“It’s amazing that a top-quality national tour is coming to our town and I encourage everyone, from students to musical fans and more, to take up this opportunity so that more productions like this might follow suit.”
A limited number of special schools price tickets are available for each show for £17.50 while prices for standard tickets start from £24.50.
