Report: Arsenal now plan to advance on deal for 'incredible' £43m attacker wanted by Tottenham this month

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are likely to have a busy summer with regards to transfers in pursuit of glory in 2024/25.

The Gunners took the Premier League title race to the final day of the season and also reached the Champions League quarter-finals last term.

Meanwhile, Spurs finished fifth in the table to reach the Europa League, but this came after they were in the top-four picture for most of the season.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham could do with bolstering their front line, and one of Spain’s top attacking talents has been linked with both clubs.

Now, according to a report from CaughtOffside, the Gunners appear to be ahead of Spurs in pursuit of the player.

Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams is one of Europe’s most highly sought-after forwards at present, with Arsenal and Tottenham just two of the clubs circling.

CaughtOffside have reported that the Gunners boast the ‘strongest interest’ in the 21-year-old, and will hope to advance on a deal for him this month.

Williams, who has also been linked with Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona, reportedly has a €50million (£43million) release clause.

Who is Arsenal and Tottenham target Nico Williams?

Williams began his football journey at Osasuna before joining the Athletic academy in 2013 and working his way up the ranks.

The 21-year-old has become a superstar at the Basque club, registering 20 goals and 24 assists from 122 outings.

Williams’ efforts helped Athletic win the Copa del Rey this year, ending their 40-year wait for silverware.

The Spain international has been labelled an “incredible” athlete, and there have been suggestions that he’s faster than Kylian Mbappe.

Williams would be a great addition to the ranks of Arsenal and Tottenham alike, so let’s see in the coming weeks whether we get any concrete developments.
