Exclusive: What Tottenham have now done after suggestions Real Madrid want to sign Cristian Romero

TBR Football understands Tottenham Hotspur have moved quickly to downplay suggestions that they could sell Cristian Romero this summer.

Reports from South America have claimed that Real Madrid could turn their attentions to the Spurs central defender.

TBR, though, is told that Tottenham are ‘not thinking about any scenario that could see Romero leave’ this summer.

Real Madrid appreciate Cristian Romero

Our sources have confirmed that Real Madrid are aware of Romero’s status as one of the Premier League’s top central defenders and like with Arsenal’s William Saliba, they do appreciate him.

However, TBR is told that Real’s focus on in central defence would be to bring in a ‘young’ less established player who could emerge in Madrid – with that we understand Lille’s Leny Yoro and Benfica’s Antonio Silva are the two featuring most prominently in their thinking.

Ange Postecoglou likely to plan summer rebuild around Cristian Romero

Postecoglou is likely to plan his summer rebuild around Romero as it is well-documented how much he admires the Argentina international.

Speaking in April, the Australian head coach admitted that he needs some of his other players to be more like Romero.

“He was outstanding. He’s a World Cup winner and I’ve just got to get some of what’s in him into some of the others,” the 58-year-old said.

Romero is under contract at the North London club until 2027 and there are no suggestion that he’d want to leave even if an offer arrived.
