Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson had a succinct response to former President Donald Trump who was caught criticizing the most populous city in the key swing state of Wisconsin as "horrible."
"Donald Trump wants to talk about things that he thinks are horrible," Johnson said. "All of us lived through his presidency so, right back at you, buddy."
Cavalier's remarks came hours after Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman reported Trump had said of the city hosting the Republican National Convention in June, "Milwaukee, where we are having our convention, is a horrible city."

Republicans have challenged that reporting with a slew of various explanations, including that Trump was referring to "election integrity."
Political experts have called the comment a "history-making" gaffe considering Milwaukee is Wisconsin's most populous city and voted overwhelmingly for Biden in 2020 — when he won the state.

Johnson said he found the comment bizarre.
"I find it kind of perplexing, I find it kind of strange that he would insult the largest city in Wisconsin because he's running for president," Johnson said. "To insult the state that is hosting your convention is think is kind of bizarre, actually, kind of unhinged."
Johnson noted that there are 50,000 Republican voters who call Milwaukee home.
"You're calling their home horrible," Johnson said. "I don't understand that."
