Celtic on the verge of making first transfer decision of the summer

Celtic’s summer transfer window is likely to be a busy one and outgoings will be a key part of the club’s strategy before the end of August.

Brendan Rodgers is on the record saying he would prefer a first-team squad of around 25 compared to the bloated status quo.

If the club work towards that as well as bringing in some quality players to improve Rodgers’ options, it means that plenty of players will be heading for opportunities elsewhere.

One of those looks to be Hyeongyu Oh, who is closing in on a move to Belgium. The South Korean made just three starts last season and apparently isn’t fancied by the manager.

Interest from Genk has been known for a few days but latest reports indicate this is now moving closer and closer to completion.

Hyeongyu Oh set for Genk switch

RMC Sport journalist Sacha Tavolieri states that Genk are now “very confident” of securing Oh’s signature after personal terms were agreed in principle while the club continues to negotiate with Celtic.

It’s said that the Belgian side want to pay around £4.2m plus add-ons for the forward, who has scored 12 goals in 47 appearances for the Bhoys since joining in January of last year.

This deal now looks set to be Celtic’s first major transfer decision of the summer, with lots of work still ahead over the next two and a half months.

Oh’s exit frees up space for quality signing

Getting Oh off the books early doors is a positive as far as I’m concerned. It allows Celtic to go out and land their preferred striker target in the initial stages of pre-season, rather than waiting around all summer.

Too often over the years, we’ve heard reports that Celtic are interested in players but waiting on outgoings before committing to a long-term contract.

Oh has talent and potential but it wasn’t quite working out for him at the Bhoys, so a swift decision that still makes the club a profit on his spell is best for all parties. Take the money and reinvest it directly into Rodgers’ team.
