Arsenal are looking for a new striker this summer.
The Gunners have been linked with a whole host of new centre-forwards ahead of this transfer window, but perhaps the north London club wouldn’t have this problem if one deal they had lined up a few years ago got over the line.
Indeed, speaking on Inside Arsenal, Team News and Ticks has shared that the Gunners almost signed a £34m striker a few years ago.
The source claims that Tammy Abraham was on the verge of signing for Arsenal a few years ago, claiming that the England international actually came to London Colney to do a deal, but, unfortunately, Arsenal couldn’t sell the necessary players to raise the funds.
Tammy Abraham almost signed for Arsenal
The insider shared the scoop on how Abraham almost joined the Gunners.
“In terms of Tammy, I’ve not heard anyone link us with him this year with his injuries being a big thing. We were very interested in him before. He was actually at Colney before, I can’t remember what year it was but we couldn’t get players out and we couldn’t raise the funds,” He said.
Abraham could’ve been brilliant for Arsenal
Tammy Abraham’s career has taken a downturn in recent years after his injury issues, but in his pomp, he could’ve been great for Arsenal.
This is a player who was banging in the goals for Chelsea at one point, and his ability to finish and spearhead an attack is exactly what Arsenal are lacking at the moment.
Of course, hindsight is 20/20, and after his injury issues, you’d probably say that Arsenal were lucky to dodge this transfer, but if Abraham could’ve stayed fit at Arsenal, he would’ve been a star and an absolute bargain at £34m – the fee he would eventually join Roma for.
Arsenal were perhaps unfortunate to miss out on this one.
