The latest on Celtic links with Etienne Vaessen as clubs circle for his signature

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has a goalkeeper at the top of his wishlist now that the summer transfer window is officially open.

Speculation has flown off the shelf regarding who could potentially replace Joe Hart between the sticks, but two names stand out above the rest at this moment in time.

Newcastle United stopper Martin Dubravka has been extensively linked with Celtic this week and hasn’t ruled out coming to Parkhead after being told he is free to leave St James’ Park.

On the other hand, Sparta Prague’s Peter Vindahl Jensen is also on the radar amid reports he could cost north of £4 million to bring to Parkhead.

Either way, one would suggest there will be movement on that front in the next few weeks, given Celtic are set to kick off their pre-season against Ayr United in three weeks time.

The latest on Celtic reported links with Etienne Vaessen

Earlier this year, reports emerged stating that RC Waalwijk stopper Etienne Vaessen was a target for Celtic amid his availability on a free transfer as they seek to replace Hart ahead of the new campaign.

He also spoke about his future in May, indicating he is relaxed about his situation and will take time before picking a new club to join.

Now, it appears he has a lot of offers for his services, with Voetbal International claiming that Williem II, NAC Breda, AZ Alkmaar, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord and FC Groningen are all keen to bring him in.

The outlet also state that he is a former NAC Breda season ticket holder who was spotted in the stands during their playoff matches to stay in the Eredivisie, and he has also held informal discussions with the club several times regarding a move.

Crucially, there is no mention of any Celtic interest, which may rule the Bhoys out of becoming his next destination.

The 28-year-old made 30 appearances in all competitions last campaign, recording six clean sheets in the process [Transfermarkt].

Nevertheless, it doesn’t look like he will end up at Celtic this summer, something that probably doesn’t come as a major surprise.
