'Interest is genuine': Liverpool have told £50m player they'd love to sign him this summer - Fabrizio Romano

Liverpool are springing in to action just as the transfer window flings open.

The market officially started on Friday and the Reds have wasted no time in trying to get some business done.

It has so far been all quiet at Anfield since the end of the season. Arne Slot may have started his time as Liverpool boss, but we’re yet to see anything of him.

In terms of transfers meanwhile, loads of the playing squad – and lots of potential targets – are currently more focused on playing in the European Championship and Copa America.

On Friday, that started to shift. Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on what’s now going on with a ‘genuine’ Liverpool transfer target

Leny Yoro fully aware of Liverpool interest

Romano has previously reported that Liverpool’s priority will be acquiring a centre-back this summer.

The Reds are in need of bolstering their options in defence after seeing Joel Matip leave and Ibrahima Konate start to decline.

As a result, so many names have already been put forward, with Juventus youngster Dean Huijsen one of the latest.

Arguably the dream signing for Liverpool, though, would be Lille defender Leny Yoro. The 18-year-old looks like an incredible talent after breaking through the Lille academy.

Reports have claimed that Liverpool are right in the mix to sign Yoro for £50m. However, Real Madrid are the player’s first choice.

Speaking on his YouTube channel on Friday, Romano confirmed that while Yoro is prioritising joining the European champions, there is still a chance for other clubs, including Liverpool.

“Liverpool are considering Leny Yoro as part of their shortlist for the defence,” says the transfer expert. “I can confirm that once again. Liverpool really like Leny Yoro and they are also in the race with Paris Saint Germain and other clubs in case Real Madrid will not go for him.

“Liverpool is one to watch. The interest is genuine and the player is aware of Liverpool’s interest. They are waiting to see what happens with Real Madrid.”

Should Liverpool hang around in Leny Yoro race?

Liverpool do not have good form when it comes to going head-to-head with Real Madrid. In fact, the Reds’ record could not be much worse.

On this occasion, it looks as though Liverpool have already basically admitted defeat in battling with the Spaniards.

If Madrid decide to go for Yoro and put up the asking price, then the player will join them.

The only reason Yoro would go anywhere else is seemingly if Florentino Perez decided the price was too steep. But when have Madrid ever worried too much about that?

As a result, we’d suggest that Liverpool should take themselves out of this race. We don’t want to be any player’s second choice, no matter how good they are. If Yoro is aware of Liverpool’s interest then he should want to join. If not, then see you later.
