Luke Shaw asked to name young standout player who fans must watch out for, he didn’t think twice about his pick

Luke Shaw has made his feelings perfectly clear on the one young standout player that Manchester United fans should be keeping a close eye on going forward.

The Manchester United left-back’s 2023-24 season at Old Trafford was curtailed by injuries, with Luke Shaw missing out a majority of the second half of the campaign.

Shaw managed only 15 appearances across all competitions for United last season, with the Red Devils star only making 12 starts in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old United defender was sidelined back in February after he came off before half-time in his side’s 2-1 win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Shaw’s muscle injury left him sidelined and the former Southampton player was a major doubt for England’s Euro 2024 campaign in Germany this summer.

However, Gareth Southgate named Shaw in his 26-man England squad and the United star is now in a race to recover from his injury ahead of Euro 2024.

It remains unclear if England boss Gareth Southgate will be able to pick Shaw for the Three Lions’ Group C opener against Serbia at Euro 2024 on Sunday.

Shaw raves about Man Utd youngster

Speaking to Goal (via TikTok), Manchester United defender Luke Shaw took part in a series of quick-fire questions, including naming the best young player in his eyes.

Shaw, who recently included a United legend in his build for the ‘perfect footballer,’ waxed lyrical about Red Devils teenager Harry Amass.

When asked to name the one young player to watch out for, the England star immediately replied: “He’s a young left-back from Man United. Harry Amass.”

Harry Amass is a top prospect in the United youth academy and was even called up for a training session with the first team at Carrington back in February.

The 17-year-old left-back, who arrived at Old Trafford in 2023, has played for United Under-18s, United Under-21s and United UEFA Under-19s in his career.

Amass has also represented England Under-17s and the United youth academy product has been capped five times for his side.

Shaw on his injury difficulties

Speaking ahead of Euro 2024, Shaw boldly claimed that ‘everyone’ is at fault for his extended period on the sideline last season.

“I felt something against Aston Villa and came off at half-time,” he said, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“I didn’t train the whole week and when the scan came back, there wasn’t too much there.

“I then trained the day before the game [at Luton] – and if the manager asks me to play, I’m never going to say, ‘No.’ But I shouldn’t have played.

“It’s kind of everyone’s fault. Partly my fault, partly the medical staff. I think everyone would admit that.”
