Bennett Memorial Diocesan School in Tunbridge Wells closed to all non-exam students due to burst water pipe

A school has been forced to shut to non-exam students due to a water leak.

Bennett Memorial Diocesan School in Culverden Down, Tunbridge Wells sent an email out to all parents this morning explaining the issue.

It read: “We are very sorry but, due to a burst water main, Bennett Memorial School will only be open for students taking GCSE and A level examinations today (June 14).

“All other students should log onto Teams, where staff will provide work for the day as far as possible.”

The leak has meant there is limited access to running and drinking water, meaning no food would be available from the kitchens.

The school continued: “Examination students should bring food and water with them.

“If your child is taking an exam and usually receives a free school meal and you would like a packed lunch provided, please e-mail enquiries@bennett.kent.sch.uk.

Students sitting exams are the only ones allowed to enter the grounds

“Toilets in the Rochester building are available for students taking exams.”

The school is hoping to be fully reopened on Monday (June 17) as repair works are under way but explained it would provide updates at the end of the school day.

It also has offered advice to parents who are key workers or whose children are vulnerable, asking them to e-mail senco@bennett.kent.sch.uk to make alternative arrangements if the closure creates any issues for their families.

The school was contacted but did not want to add any further comment.
