Metallica is set to take to a virtual stage in "Fortnite" later in June for a series of live concerts for players of the cult battle royale game.

To ring in the start of season four, three live performances are set to take place at different times on June 22 and 23, Universal Music said, announcing the "METALLICA:FUEL.FIRE.FURY" exclusive for "Fortnite" players.

"James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo from Metallica are the Icons of Season 4," Fortnite said, announcing various festival-themed additions to the game.

The US band is the first to be experienced in the game across all worlds. In the game, players can also perform songs on stage and customise their game character to look like Lars Ulrich.

The heavy metallers are currently also touring Europe, North America and Mexico in real life, and are also set to play in Copenhagen, Oslo, Warsaw, Chicago and Mexico City, among other places.
