The Dallas Cowboys could have traded with a smaller NFC threat than the Detroit Lions in the Draft

The 2024 NFL Draft would feel like months ago as we have officially reached the summer break for the NFL but small pieces of information are coming to light.

America’s Team was focused on their trenches on both sides of the ball, taking Tyler Guyton with their opening pick.

The Dallas Cowboys’ offseason approach allowed key starters to walk in free agency and minimal replacements arrived.

Vice President Stephen Jones has hinted that money-swallowing contracts like wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, defensive edge Micah Parsons, and potentially franchise quarterback Dak Prescott have forced limited spending.

Therefore, the front office has had to turn to rookie supplementation to restore numbers to the roster.

Dallas was engaged in a crucial NFL Draft after an inactive offseason and traded back with the Lions

When the Dallas Cowboys were on the clock with the 24th pick, the franchise decided to accept a trade back with the Detroit Lions.

The Cowboys moved back to #29 but recouped the Lions’ third-round pick, meaning the franchise had an extra selection on Day 3.

However, there was another opportunity for the Cowboys as they had another NFC team on the line finishing for a trade.

The Arizona Cardinals were desperate to jump in front of the Green Bay Packers

The Arizona Cardinals were sitting back in 27 and were eager to trade up with the Dallas Cowboys.

Moreover, the Cardinals released a behind-the-scenes video on the NFL Draft opening night, and the front office was recorded to be worried about Green Bay sitting behind the Cowboys.

The trade offer was that the Cardinals would receive picks number 24 and 174 and in exchange, the Cowboys would drop back to 27 and acquire pick 104.

Owner Jerry Jones considered the offer but decided to stick with the Detroit Lions’ trade offer, as they selected Terrion Arnold.

The Dallas Cowboys build key foundations for their offensive line through the Lions’ trade

Cowboys drafted Tyler Guyton and Cooper Beebe with the picks of the trade, key acquisitions for their offensive line.

The Arizona Cardinals had concluded their season with a 4-13 record and are less of a threat in the NFC than the Lions.

Ultimately, the Lions are the reigning NFC North champions and were contenders for the NFC Championship.

However, trading with the Lions meant they got an extra third-round pick, something the Cardinals did not offer.
