It is clear what Nottingham Forest should do with Brandon Aguilera this summer - opinion

Nottingham Forest can only be left with one option when it comes to their decision on what they will do with youngster Brandon Aguilera this summer.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side have a busy couple of weeks ahead of them now the summer transfer window has opened.

Forest are one of the Premier League sides who are in need of generating some cash this month to meet the PSR rules.

Before 30 June, Forest are going to have to find £20m through player sales to avoid any further PSR breaches like that of last summer.

Already, players like Matt Turner are being linked with potential moves away from Forest with interest coming from the MLS.

However, there are some players who Nuno may have to offload over the coming months to help progress their development with the Portuguese manager not being able to guarantee game time.

One of the players who falls into that camp is the youngster Brandon Aguilera who will need regular game time if he is to develop.

What Forest should do with Brandon Aguilera this summer

Having spent the second half of the campaign out on loan with Bristol Rovers, it is crucial Forest send Aguilera out on loan again this summer.

At 20-years-old, it is incredibly difficult to see the Costa Rican play a valuable role under Nuno ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The youngster is competing with the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White for a spot in the starting XI.

Of course, that spot may well be up for grabs over the coming weeks with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur showing an interest in Gibbs-White.

But if Forest are to offload the Englishman over the summer, he would command a whopping transfer fee which would provide Evangelos Marinakis to bring in a suitable replacement.

Aguilera is a versatile player having played on either side as well as through the middle, however, the competition does not get much easier in the Forest XI.

With Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga both enjoying impressive 2023/24 campaigns, paths into the starting XI are going to be extremely difficult to come by for the youngster.

It has to be remembered he is still incredibly young and loaning the Costa Rican out for another season would not mark the end of his time at the City Ground.

Brandon Aguilera could shine in League One

Having enjoyed a small taste of life in League One with Bristol Rovers, the young talent could well find his feet in the third tier if he is to return for a full season.

Injury disrupted his loan spell with the Pirates where he was able to return two goals in his 12 appearances.

He was even able to provide Rovers with all three points with a stunning striker from the edge of the box.

And this is a player who is still very highly-rated at Forest with Moussa Niakhate having some very big praise for the 20-year-old.

“Brandon, Brandon, what a baller. What a baller!” Niakhate said last year.

Going into the summer, Aguilera has two years remaining on his deal and a season away on loan at a club where he is going to play regularly could help him towards seeing his stay at Forest extended.
