Report: Evangelos Marinakis planning big change at the City Ground this summer inspired by the World Cup

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is set to increase the capacity of the City Ground this summer.

A lot of change could be set to be undertaken at the City Ground this summer with Forest in need of selling some of their players.

The summer transfer window is now open for business and Forest are one of the sides needing to raise some cash through player sale before June 30.

But it is not just changes to the squad which could take place, the position of Nuno Espirito Santo remains under speculation as the club approach alternative options.

It has been claimed former AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli has already rejected an approach from Forest this summer.

For now, one certain change Forest fans will see when they return to the City Ground in August will be some alterations to the stadium.

Nottingham Forest plan to increase City Ground capacity

Currently, the City Ground’s capacity has been locked just below 30,000 following their return to the Premier League.

According to The Athletic, it is important to Evangelos Marinakis that the capacity exceeds the 30,000 mark as he looks to bring it in line with his other club, Olympiacos.

Numerous changes are going to be made at the City Ground over the coming weeks and the space between the Trent End and the Brian Clough Stand will now see a further 180 seats added.

Marinakis has taken inspiration from Stadium 974 which was used in the Qatar World Cup – the one built from shipping containers.

But they are not the only changes with the screen next to the Trent End expected to be moved slightly so the work can be accomodated.

Debate still remains as to whether Forest should move to a new home or whether they should just redevelop what they already have.

But for now, Forest are going to have a stadium which can finally see them play Premier League football with over 30,000 fans in attendance.

Evangelos Marinakis is also getting his own box

Marinakis is also getting some fun out of the small tweaks made at the City Ground with the owner building himself a suite to watch the games from.

The Forest owner is expected to have a suite where he is able to stand up and move whilst also having the privacy which his current seat does not offer.

Situated in the Peter Taylor Stand, Marinakis’ suite is set to become the most luxurious of its type in the ground.

Work has not started on the building the suite as there may not quite be the space to make the suite quite as what Marinakis has at the Olympiacos stadium.
