'I love him': Idrissa Gana Gueye says Everton have a 'great' player who is totally unique

Idrissa Gana Gueye says Everton have an utterly “unique” player who he really loves.

The 34-year-old featured 25 times in the Premier League last season, scoring four goals, including crucial efforts against Brentford and Nottingham Forest.

Gueye stepped up when Sean Dyche needed him most this season and was heavily praised by Ian Wright toward the end of the 2023/24 season.

The Senegalese midfielder, however, has lauded another Everton player, who is now set to stay at Goodison Park for another year.

After several weeks of uncertainty, Everton confirmed that Seamus Coleman would be staying at Goodison Park for one more year after the Irishman agreed to a contract extension.

There was doubt over the 35-year-old’s future despite being offered fresh terms by the club.

Gueye has since reacted to the news via Everton’s X account.

The Senegalese midfielder said: “I love Seamus! He is unique. He is a proper captain, a great player and, above all of that, he is a proper human being.”

The news all Evertonians wanted to hear, and it feels fitting for the club’s longest-serving player to be part of the Toffees’ final season at Goodison Park.

Always a 7/10 performer and clearly an excellent character around the dressing room, it comes as no surprise to see the Irishman extend his stay – and Dyche will be delighted.

Coleman, more than anyone at the club, will be desperate for the Blues to enjoy a joyous final season at their famous old home.

Looking to push into mid-table has to be the goal this season, and with the 35-year-old among Dyche’s options, the Toffees’ summer has started positively.
