Report: Aston Villa eyeing 'very intelligent' attacker set to play at Copa America, he dreams of playing in Europe

Aston Villa are likely to bolster their ranks over the coming weeks ahead of a highly anticipated 2024/25 campaign.

The Villans finished fourth in the Premier League to qualify for the Champions League, and they’ll need to strengthen to ensure they can handle the extra workload.

Villa have made their first steps in the summer market, with discussions said to be taking place with Juventus over a potential cash-plus-player deal involving Douglas Luiz.

The Villans are also reportedly in talks to sell Jhon Duran to Chelsea, which would earn them a nice sum they can reinvest in the squad.

In recent days, there have been links between Villa and Pumas UNAM winger Cesar Huerta, and now Infobae has provided a further update on his situation.

The report claims that the Villans are up against Lazio, Nice and Girona in pursuit of the 23-year-old Mexico international.

Several clubs have reportedly asked about Huerta’s price tag, though it doesn’t specify whether Villa are one of the teams that have enquired.

Huerta hasn’t yet received a formal offer, and there could be ‘something official in the coming weeks’, added the report.

Who is Aston Villa target Cesar Huerta?

Cesar Huerta was born in Guadalajara and has spent his entire career to date in Mexico, joining his current club in the summer of 2022.

The 23-year-old has done well for Pumas UNAM, registering 66 appearances, 14 goals and 11 assists.

Huerta’s efforts have seen him make the Mexico squad for this summer’s Copa America tournament.

In October last year, he spoke about his ambitions of plying his trade in European football.

“I am a very intelligent guy and I know how to take the good things and I know how to throw away the bad,” Marca quoted him as saying.

“I have said that one of my goals is to be able to go to Europe, compete in the elite of football. My work will allow me to do that.”

In May, Smarterscout described Huerta as a ‘very lively ball-to-feet winger, regularly getting people off their seats with his dribbling.’

They continued: ‘His ball retention has significantly improved over the last couple of years, while his attacking output has been decent too.

‘The 23-year-old winger still has room to develop, particularly with his shooting quality ,although he started to get into dangerous positions in the box with greater consistency of late.

Clubs around the world will surely be monitoring his progress.’
