Dominic Solanke buzzing over transfer news out of Newcastle today

Newcastle United are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his ranks.

The Magpies squad was pushed to its very limits last season and they’ll need to increase their strength in depth if they want to kick on.

However, Newcastle must also abide by profit and sustainability rules, which means they must be careful in the market or risk points deductions.

With that in mind, free transfers could be on the cards. Indeed, the Magpies have now struck gold with regards to one of the Premier League’s most highly sought-after free transfers.

On Thursday, Newcastle announced that Lloyd Kelly has signed a contract at St James’ Park and will link up with the Magpies on 1 July.

The 25-year-old defender, whose Bournemouth contract expires at the end of the month, has reportedly penned a five-year deal on Tyneside.

Kelly will reunite with Howe, who signed the player from Bristol City for £13million in 2019 when he was in charge of the Cherries.

Newcastle were eager to show off their new signing on their socials, and on Instagram, some of Kelly’s peers expressed their delight with his move.

For instance, Joelinton wrote “welcome to the family my friend”, while Dominic Solanke commented “let’s go my bro”.

Dominic Solanke linked with Newcastle

Solanke has been linked with Newcastle in recent months. In May, GiveMeSport reported that the Magpies made an initial approach for the Bournemouth forward.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Solanke. He has been linked with a number of other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Solanke may just be wishing his former teammate all the best at his new club, but it would certainly be nice if he could quickly rejoin him – at Newcastle – in the coming weeks.
