Rapid chief fumes after Gers talks for Rrahmani and £5m transfer claims

Rangers have been linked with a move for Albion Rrahmani with the Kosovan international a much sought-after target.

Nils Koppen is said to have held talks with the 23-year old’s agents and has put the Light Blues in pole position to add the 19-goal striker to Philippe Clement’s squad.

There is still plenty of work to be done on the deal though with Rapid Bucharest owner Dan Sucu putting Rangers back in their box amid rumours of a deal being imminent.

Rapid chief fumes amid Rangers talks with Albion Rrahmani

Since the story first broke, there have been reports about what sort of fee Rapid are looking for and the other clubs that are interested.

That Rangers recruitment chief met Rrahmani’s agent in Mexico is also probably a source of frustration.

When asked about the speculation at a recent press conference, a terse Sucu replied:

“Are there concrete offers for Albion Rrahmani? Any chance he’ll leave? Have you priced it? I would like to do it differently, if possible.

“Let’s bet where all that information will be found, if it will be confirmed and if it will be relevant, directly from the Rapid website! And you will find that out there and not from other sources.

“We live in a competitive climate, that is true.

“But information about your decisions, ideas and intentions should remain, as much as possible, within the club.

“If there is a competitor who would like to learn our information or buy our players they will have to know it from us and not other sources.”

The last sentence almost seems like a less-than-subtle dig at Nils Koppen and Rangers.

Rrahmani deal would still be good value despite missing bargain

Unfortunately for Sucu, modern football doesn’t wait for clubs to announce signings or transfers.

Usually, it is social media personalities like Fabrizio Romano who reveal transfer news.

Rangers have yet to commit to any significant transfer spend this summer, but Albion Rrahmani appears to be a player who is worth pushing the budget for.

In his last two seasons he has scored 48 goals and chipped in with 13 assists too.

The sort of numbers that a Rangers centre-forward should be getting.

It’s just a shame that Rrahmani couldn’t have been noticed last season when his transfer fee was 10 times smaller than it is now.

A fee in the region of £5m is what is being reported, not that Rapid’s chief will confirm anything anytime soon, but it is the going rate for strikers in the second tier leagues who have shown that they know where the goal is.

Something Rrahmani is an expert at.
