Georgia Basketball added the commitment of Serbian point guard Savo Drezgic on Friday, and the 2025 prospect will reclassify to join the Bulldogs for this upcoming season. Drezgic, ranked the No. 70 player in the nation for 2025 (and highest at No. 53 by On3), gives Mike White and company four commits in the Class of 2024, joining five-star plus+ forward Asa Newell, former Kentucky signee Somto Cyril, a top-50 prospect and Jordyn Kee in the group.
Drezgic is an interesting story. A product of Partizan Mozzart Bet of the Serbian KLS, the Adriatic League and the EuroLeague, Drezgic made his professional debut in February 2023 at just the age of 16. Prior to playing professionally, he represented Serbia in the 2022 FIBA U16 European Championship where he averaged 13.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Serbia was outed in the opening round of the main bracket against Israel having gone 2-1 in pool play and would drop its next game against Latvia too. Drezgic scored a tournament-high 25 points in the 78-76 loss, his fourth time in five games reaching double figures. Serbia would finish the tournament with two more wins, going 4-3 overall, as Drezgic added another double-figure day against Croatia.
Drezgic spent a pair of seasons with the Partizan U18 team 2021-2023. He had a particularly impressive triple-double in his last recorded European outing, scoring 27 points while pulling down 12 rebounds and adding 10 assists in 32 minutes against Umana Reyer Venice. Drezgic would go on to play for the Partizan professional team in the ABA League playoffs, helping Partizan hoist a championship trophy when all was said and done.
Once one of the youngest playings on a EuroLeague roster, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound 17-year old from Belgrade was loaned to DME Academy, a private, athletics training academy based in Daytona Beach, Fla. in December 2023. It was a move he made hoping to put himself in a position to better his future and transition from European basketball to the American style.
Drezgic earned MVP honors on Day 1 at the Adidas Next Generation Tournament, playing for Partizan’s U18 tam. He scored 24 points while adding 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. He also earned praise from On3’s Jamie Shaw at the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders event in February.
“G Savo Drezgic (Serbia) played very fast but did so under control,” Shaw wrote. “He has an intriguing change of pace, as he goes from fast to faster. He threw a couple of very nice passes in transition, as he kept the defense on its heels most of the day.”
With Drezgic’s addition, Georgia’s roster is filled out for 2024-25. Silas Demary, Blue Cain and Dylan James return after a run to the NIT semifinals, helping the Bulldogs win 20 games for the first time in eight seasons. The Class of 2024 adds to the young talent with the likes of Newell and Cyril coming on board while White and his staff attacked the transfer portal hard. MAAC Rookie of the Year De’Shayne Montgomery (Mount St. Marys), Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year Justin Abson (Appalachian State), All-MAAC first teamer Dakota Leffew (Mount St. Mary’s), RJ Godfrey (Clemson), a key contributor to the Tigers’ run to the Elite 8, and Tyrin Lawrence (Vanderbilt), an SEC standout the past few seasons, all chose Georgia from the transfer portal. A late addition of Kee, who is expected to redshirt, and walk-on Jaden Newell being put on scholarship rounds out Georgia’s 13 for this season.
