Celtic linked with Switzerland international as Bhoys cast wide net for problem position

Celtic have been registering interest in goalkeepers all over Europe recently as they attempt to find a replacement for Joe Hart.

Hart was a solid performer for the Bhoys, also becoming a favourite in the dressing room and the stands. A winner of seven trophies across 153 appearances, he made a superb impact.

His retirement leaves a big gap between the sticks. Getting this transfer right is arguably Celtic’s most important task of the summer.

The three main names to have been linked to the position in recent weeks are Peter Vindahl Jensen, Martin Dubravka and Caoimhin Kelleher. As of yet, there’s been no report of a bid breakthrough when it comes to any of them.

More names continue to be added to the target list in the media and an intriguing report has emerged from French outlet Le Telegramme this week.

Celtic show interest in Yvon Mvogo

The paper say that Celtic have expressed interest in Lorient goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo. The relegated side are expected to lose several first-team players this summer and multiple clubs are keen on the 30-year-old.

It’s stated that, alongside the Bhoys, Nantes and Parma are keen on the Switzerland international who has been included in his country’s EURO 2024 squad as a depth option.

Mvogo’s contract only runs until next summer and the Italians are said to value him between £3m-£4m as they weigh up making a bid with Lorient.

The goalkeeper has won nine caps with his country, five of which have come in the last year.

Having also had spells at Young Boys and RB Leipzig, Mvogo has actually played against Celtic. He featured in both of Leipzig’s matches against the Bhoys in the 2018/19 Europa League.

We don’t know if Celtic’s interest will materialise into anything concrete but it’s another name to add to the rumour mill as the wait goes on for a shot-stopper.
