Report: Manager wants to keep £38m West Ham attacking target but he must be sold for financial reasons

West Ham United are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as they look to bolster their ranks.

The Hammers will be eager to give new boss Julen Lopetegui what he needs to ensure the club can bounce back after a difficult 2023/24 campaign.

West Ham already have their first signing of the summer on board, bringing Luis Guilherme to the London Stadium from Palmeiras.

In recent days, the Hammers have been linked with one of Serie A’s top talents, Juventus attacker Matias Soule.

Now, a report from Gazzetta dello Sport has provided some interesting new information about Juve’s stance towards the player.

The report claims that new head coach Thiago Motta wouldn’t actually mind keeping hold of Soule, suggesting he rates him quite highly.

However, his role at the club ‘must be sacrificed’ so that Juve director Cristiano Giuntoli can reinvest the money in new signings.

As well as West Ham, the likes of Aston Villa are reportedly in pursuit of Soule, a player who has been described as ‘Messi-esque’.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a superb campaign on loan at Serie A outfit Frosinone last term, registering 11 goals and three assists.

In terms of price tag, CaughtOffside recently reported that Juve want around €45million (£38million) to sell Soule.

The report also claimed that West Ham are plotting a €30million (£25.3million) bid for Soule, though it suggested that it might not be enough.

Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks. The Hammers will need to be mindful of the opposition for Soule’s services, as Villa are in the Champions League.
