‘Really interesting’: Kaka reckons ‘dangerous’ Man City midfielder is actually better as a winger

Kaka has said that he’s really enjoyed seeing one particular Manchester City star develop and improve as a player.

The Brazilian certainly knows a top player when he sees one, having played and won titles with clubs such as AC Milan and Real Madrid.

Specifically, Kaka has played alongside legendary figures such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Cafu, Andrea Pirlo and Filippo Inzaghi among others.

Now that a large number of today’s top players are set to feature in a summer full of international competitions, the 2007 Ballon d’Or winner has pinpointed one City star he’s had his eyes on for a while.

Kaka says Phil Foden is better on the wing

In a recent interview with The Times, Kaka shared these comments about Phil Foden, including his development at the Manchester club and where on the pitch he is the most effective.

He said: “I’ve seen a lot of City games and I think Foden is growing.

“We are seeing that he is more mature, he has more responsibility. He’s ready for that. It’s really interesting to see him improving.

“I like to see this situation because you never know how a player is going to develop, if they are going to be able to do it.

“I see him as a winger. As a winger, he has more space to be creative. When you play in the middle it’s really hard because you don’t have so much space.

“When Foden has this space he can be very dangerous.”

Foden is a dangerous figure regardless of where he plays

With 270 senior appearances for City now under his belt, the Englishman has featured in numerous positions across the central and wide areas of the midfield and attack.

Even though Foden played more games this season (21) on the right-wing than any other position, 13 of his 27 goals across all competitions came when he was playing as an attacking-midfielder.

Taking into account how Jamie Carragher likened the 24-year-old’s ability on the ball to the likes of Andres Iniesta and Zinedine Zidane last month, it comes as no surprise to us that Kaka has been a big admirer of the City star.

In our view, even though Foden has admitted previously to the official Manchester City website that he very much enjoys playing in a central-attacking-midfield role, we feel that the England international has the talent to be a creative force from anywhere on the pitch.
