Rangers transfer scar tissue raked over as reported £1.5m still weeks away from decision

Rangers fans have probably earned the right to be a little nervous about the transfer situation of Yusuf Kabadayi.

In recent seasons, the club have managed to keep any would-be transfer deals under wraps but as Nils Koppen and Philippe Clement cast their net wider, the leaks are increasing.

Not from the Rangers side mind you.

Reports from Panama and Bulgaria let slip the doomed interest in Jose Cordoba, it was Sweden we heard about the stuttering late interest in Nathaniel Adjei and Yusuf Kabadayi was first linked in Germany.

That’s before we mention the likes of Damian Garcia in Uruguay.

But what all these unfortunately public pursuits have in common – Kabadayi aside – is that Rangers have failed to pull off the moves for whatever reason.

Now, a lack of motion in the apparent Rangers bid for the Bayern winger has some fans chewing their fingernails as an immense pressure begins to build on the window.

Kabadayi has ‘three options’

Rangers were named as leading Yusuf Kabadayi suitors at the beginning of June by Sky Sports in Germany.

This was after the 20-year-old winger returned to Bayern Munich following a successful stint on loan at cash-strapped Schalke 04 last season.

Naming the Ibrox club alongside newly promoted Bundesliga outfit St. Pauli and Serie A side Lecce, reputable journalist Florian Plettenberg lit the blue touch paper.

Since then there’s been a lot of talk – including a sighting of Kabadayi in the UK – but nothing concrete to suggest a deal is further down the line.

The suggestion is that Rangers will have to pay between £1m and £1.5m to complete a permanent transfer.

Now, Der Western have claimed that Kabadayi is still currently locked in showdown talks with Bayern directors Max Eberl and Christoph Freund.

With all ‘three options’ still on the table regarding Kabadayi’s future – a purchase, a loan-to-buy, or a new contract and loan – nothing is decided.

It means Rangers fans who’re eager to see the club follow through on their early promise of a rebuild will have to wait.

How long we hear you ask?

Well according to the German outlet, the situation threatens to rumble on for a few weeks yet.

Rangers transfer nerves jangle

Rangers fans have so far seen Brazilian left-back Jefte (Fluminense), Colombian winger Oscar Cortes (RC Lens) and French defender Clinton Nsiala (AC Milan) come into the club this summer.

With no fewer than five first-teamers and around 750 appearances walking out the door in the week previous, there is still much work to be done.

Several areas of the squad require surgery and Rangers reportedly have a number of irons in the fire.

But given a lack of transfer movement and the start of Euro 2024, you’ll forgive fans for being a little nervous.

Once the distraction of the tournament is over and done with the competitive club action will not be long from starting and Rangers are in for a hectic summer.

The news that Yusuf Kabadayi could still be weeks away from making his mind up will raise fears that Rangers could be strung along only to be let down.

There’s still plenty of time to get it right this window but until the names are in the door and Nils Koppen’s Rangers vision comes into focus we expect the nerves to continue.
