Liverpool fans rage as footage emerges of what happened to Luis Diaz while playing for Colombia

Liverpool supporters will be keeping an eye on how their international stars get on for their respective nations this summer.

The European nations have already kicked off Euro 2024, while on the other side of the world, Copa America is rapidly approaching.

The Anfield faithful will be wanting their players to shine on the big stage, but at the same time avoid injury.

New manager Arne Slot will be in the exact same position, with the Dutchman needing all of his squad to return to Merseyside fully fit.

But given the huge Liverpool representation at national team level this summer, injuries may just be unavoidable.

The Bolivian was somehow only booked for the offence, but the nations received a red card apiece for the brawl that immediately followed the foul on Diaz, who was substituted shortly after.

Slot has important plans for Diaz in pre-season, but the winger’s future does remain up in the air, with Liverpool to consider his sale if an offer of more than £50million arrives this summer.

Regardless, Liverpool fans were outraged by the challenge on one of their key players, with many taking to X to share their disgust.

One user wrote: “That guy should never play football again. If you do that in a friendly, I’m worried what you might do in a league or cup game.”

A second commented: “South American football is still in the 1980s,” with another saying: “This is so unfair and should be discouraged.”

Others shared their disbelief at the lack of red card, saying: “Worst part of all he didn’t even get a red card for this,” “The loser who tackled him didn’t even get sent off. Unbelievable,” and “Not even a red card, what a disgrace.”

Another user commented: “I think it’s extremely unlikely Luis is available at the start of the new season, right?”

Others noted: “I’ve seen enough bring him back now,” “They will return him to us in crutches,” and “Disgusting tackle.”
