Celtic fans will love former Open golf champion's two reasons for being a Hoops fan

Due to Celtic’s size, history and popularity as a football club, they have a number of celebrity fans scattered all over the world.

From Billy Connolly, Martin Compston, James McAvoy and Kevin Bridges the Hoops are supported by many famous faces across the globe.

Just this morning we spoke about WWE legend, CM Punk, where the Celtic fans loved his media press conference decked out in the Hoops’ training gear.

And now, it seems we have another name to add to the list after former Open golf champion, Henrik Stenson’s frank admission.

Henrik Larsson’s influence at Celtic

Hailing from Sweden, Stenson is obviously a big fan of Henrik Larsson because of his exploits for his country on the international stage.

One of the legendary figures in the Swedish game, Larsson spent his best years in Paradise and Stenson admits that was one of the main reasons he started supporting Celtic.

Stenson said [Golf Australia print edition page 5], “When I was really young I used to watch the English matches on TV in Sweden.

“I was a Liverpool fan because of the Swedish defender Glenn Hysen.

“But Henrik Larsson, one of our best-ever players, ended up at Celtic, so that got me interested in them.

“However, I might have just said I support them to p— off a Rangers fan.”

Larsson’s Celtic career was one that was littered with silverware and glory. Integral to helping stop Rangers’ bid for ten-in-a-row, the Swedish striker scored 242 goals in 315 appearances in seven incredible years wearing the green and white Hoops.

Larsson won four league titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups during his spell at the club which included Celtic’s first treble since the Jock Stein era under Martin O’Neill and helped take Celtic to their first European final since 1970.

For his country, the Celtic legend earned 104 caps scoring 37 goals netting against the likes of England and Italy in World Cups and at the Euros.

Still revered at Celtic, Larsson will go down as not only one of the greats in Paradise but also in his homeland of Sweden.
