Newcastle United are in hot pursuit of a 37-cap international who tormented England earlier this month, according to a recent report.
The Magpies will be eager to return to Europe next term having brutally missed out on qualification to the Europa League following Manchester United’s FA Cup triumph.
Eddie Howe’s men were subsequently booted out of the competition, with United leapfrogging them into the Europa League and Chelsea taking their spot in the Conference.
Howe will need to be backed in the window to bolster his squad – which suffered a number of injuries last term – and with that said, his side are reportedly very keen on a player who tormented England this month.
Newcastle United very keen on Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson
According to the Sunday Mirror (page 72), Newcastle United are one of the clubs who are very keen on signing OH Leuven winger Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson.
The 25-year-old was the matchwinner for Iceland when they faced England at Wembley earlier this month and it seems his performance has raised his profile tenfold, particularly in the Premier League where interest is beginning to gather.
West Ham United and Leicester City are also keeping tabs on the wide player, who netted seven times whilst laying on as many assists for the Belgian outfit last term.
Leicester are likely to be the favourites, however, as Leuven is their sister club, thus making negotiations very simple.
Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson wants Premier League move
Thorsteinsson was at Fulham’s academy as a youngster and a source close to the player has revealed it’s his dream to return to England and play in the Premier League.
“He has always dreamed of playing in the Premier League,” the source said.
“I think he showed at Wembley that he’s capable of playing at the highest level in England.”
If Newcastle were to land his signature this summer, he’d likely join as depth on both flanks and as an attacking midfielder.
