£42m midfielder says he's 'curious' about PL move as Liverpool reportedly close in on agreement

Liverpool are likely to be busy in the coming weeks as the club looks to give Arne Slot the tools needed to hit the ground running at Anfield.

The Reds were hopeful of winning multiple trophies in Klopp’s last season at Anfield, but couldn’t add to their Carabao Cup victory in February.

Now, with Slot at the Liverpool helm, the hope is that the Reds can build on 2023/24 and enjoy a fruitful campaign under their new manager.

Now, one player who the Reds are reportedly pursuing has admitted that he’s “curious” about the Premier League.

The player in question is Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who enjoyed a fruitful season with the Serie A club last season, helping them win the Europa League.

Sports Zone reported earlier in June that the 24-year-old is close to an agreement in principle with Liverpool over contract terms.

And last weekend, CaughtOffside claimed that the Reds are plotting to submit an offer worth around £42million to sign Ederson.

Now, the Brazilian has spoken out about his future and, while he admits he’s happy at Atalanta, he hasn’t ruled out the prospect of a move away.

What has Liverpool target Ederson said about prospect of playing in Premier League?

Speaking in an interview with Spanish outlet AS, Ederson was asked about what league aside from Serie A would suit his style of play.

“I don’t know, I’ve thought about it a lot, I like Italy, I’m well adapted, but I’m curious about the Premier League, so I don’t know,” Ederson said.

“I’m still growing, so I don’t know if I’ll stay in Italy, I think I still have more to prove. If I go somewhere else, then too. I will continue to grow.”

Ederson went on to say that ultimately it will be up to Atalanta if they want to accept any offers that might come in.

“It always happens when the market opens that all the speculation comes, but not only about my future, but also for many players,” he said.

“I am very happy at Atalanta. I just won a great title, I am very well integrated. My future is something that doesn’t worry me.

“If something comes up about a transfer, the club has to accept it first, and that is the most important thing.

“I have a good relationship with Atalanta, so the moment they come and tell me that they have some kind of offer, that will be when the talks start.

“At the moment, I am an Atalanta player and I am still an Atalanta player.”

Who is Liverpool target Ederson?

Atalanta’s Ederson – not to be confused with his namesake at Manchester City – has gone from strength to strength since arriving in Europe.

He joined Italian club Salernitana from Brazilian outfit Corinthians in January 2022, and within six months, he was on the way to Atalanta for around £18million.

Last season, Ederson made 53 appearances, registering seven goals and one assist as he helped La Dea make history.

Atalanta went all the way in the Europa League, thrashing Bayer Leverkusen in the final to win the first major trophy in their history.

Earlier this year, Sky Sports spoke to Tiago Nunes, Ederson’s former boss at Corinthians, to find out about the player’s strengths and style.

“He is a box-to-box player with the energy to keep going back and forth all the time,” said Nunes.

“My first impressions were of a player with a lot of strength, a lot of physical ability, a player who was a powerful striker on the ball, with good technique.

“Basically, someone with characteristics that are difficult to find, especially in Brazilian football.”
